
Stop Waiting for the Bathroom to Warm Up
Ever stepped into a cold dressing room and felt that immediate shiver? Traditional heaters are a pain because they try to warm the air first. But in a bathroom, the air just disappears—it slips out through the vents and under the doors. You’re basically trying to heat the outdoors. That’s why we use shortwave infrared (SWIR). Instead of fighting with the air, these lamps beam heat directly onto you and the surfaces around you. It’s instant.
How it actually works
We use high-wattage quartz halogen tubes for these. The second you flip the switch, the tungsten filament hits its peak temperature in a fraction of a second. You don’t have to stand there waiting for the room to “warm up.” You feel the heat on your skin immediately. It’s a great feeling—you could be standing in a room that’s 10°C, but you’ll feel cozy the moment the light hits you.
The nuts and bolts
To make sure these don’t crack under the pressure of heating up and cooling down over and over, we use hard-glass quartz. It’s tough stuff. Depending on where the lamp is hanging, we might add a special coating to the glass so it doesn’t blind you or to tweak how the heat spreads. And for the people actually maintaining these? We kept it simple. We use R7s snap-in connectors. No soldering, no crimping, no headache. If a tube goes out, the maintenance crew just pops the old one out and snaps a new one in. Done.
The “Gotchas”
Now, there are a few things to watch out for. These lamps pull a lot of power. If you’re putting in a bank of four 600W lamps, you can’t just plug them into any old outlet. You need the right wiring and breakers, or you’re going to spend your afternoon resetting the power box—or worse, overheating the housing. Then there’s the “line-of-sight” issue. Since the heat travels in a straight line, it works like a flashlight. If there’s a partition or a wall in the way, you get a cold spot. You have to be smart about where you place them so everyone in the room actually gets the heat.
