
Keeping Your Class 100 Cleanroom Actually Clean
When you’re working in a Class 100 cleanroom, heating isn’t just about getting things warm. It’s a battle against particles. Here is the problem: standard infrared lamps are kind of messy. During that first burn-in phase, they tend to outgas or shed tiny bits of debris. If you’re working with wafers or high-purity chemicals, that’s a disaster. One microscopic flake and your whole batch is toast. That’s why we stick with UHP (Ultra High Purity) synthetic quartz. Why the fancy glass? We use high-purity fused silica for the envelope because it keeps metallic impurities from leaking into your process chamber. Standard quartz can get “crusty” (devitrification) when it gets really hot. UHP glass doesn’t do that. It stays stable. No cracking, no scaling—just steady, reliable heat. The heat side of things Our UHP lamps are built to pack a punch. We push high wattage through a narrow tube to get the surface temperature to spike fast. If you’re running a semiconductor or pharma line, you need that rapid ramp-up. But a word of caution: make sure your housing can actually handle that kind of heat flux. If your cooling fans aren’t up to the task, you’re just asking for a burnt-out filament. Getting rid of the grime We’re obsessive about the cleaning process. Before these lamps are sealed, they go through a rigorous cycle to strip away every last trace of oil or fingerprints. And we don’t mess around with the connectors. We use precision fits to keep the electrical contact tight. Why? Because a loose connection creates arc-points. Those arcs spit out metallic particles, which is basically a nightmare scenario when you’re aiming for zero pollution. The trade-off Now, there is a catch. UHP lamps are the cleanest option, but they’re more brittle than the heavy-duty industrial tubes you might be used to. They can’t take a hit. You’ve got to be gentle during installation. Wear your lint-free gloves. Even a tiny scratch on the quartz creates a stress point. Under vacuum or high pressure, that little scratch can turn into a burst tube. Handle them with care, and they’ll do the job perfectly.
